Reverse Culture Shock

This culture is very much on the light side.

When you live in one place for a while and then go and live in another, the differences are often stark. When you LIVE in the situation, they call it “culture shock”. If you are just visiting - sometimes those differences are charming.

This time, when I came back to Florida to be here, I noticed these few things - and I realize that these things may be very specific to this part of the states. Not all 50 states in the USA are the same - that I realize.

But these are things I noticed - in no particular order.

  1. Friendly strangers - people in the airport chatted with me and vice versa. Ladies - total strangers - waiting for bathrooms at gas stations chatted with me - but it was strange.. (And this was with no regard to race- unlike what the media would like you to believe about Americans!)

  2. Rolled down windows in cars in parking lots

  3. Pickup trucks

  4. People sitting in vehicles with them running

  5. Picking up things at the deli at the store - regularly - with just about anything available to buy - meat, veggies, fruit platters and people regularly buy them and it appears to be a very large part of the average family’s food budget!

These are the first few things I’ve noticed. I do have more, but these take precedence right now!

Hope at least it has made you smile!
