What I'm up to today

So what exactly did I do today?

Good question. I feel like I didn’t do much. But I think it’s not true. It’s just that I didn’t get to what I had hoped to get to (UP Greens Checkered).

Let me tell you. I think you will be underwhelmed. Sorry about that.

—I rechecked the blog post for today and fixed any mistakes I found after it was published.

—I went to the wholesale place and bought two rolls of poly batting for the quilts I want to sandwich SOON - I have about 15 more small ones to sandwich and about 20 more BIG ones. The two rolls won’t be enough for those - but will almost be enough. I will probably need to buy one more bolt to finish out the year’s charity quilts. Each bolt of poly batting is 50 meters and now costs 190 zl or $49.43 at today’s exchange rate. I also picked up a few colorful spools of thread to blend with the quilts I’m working on. I still have plenty of tan/browns from the Big Fabric Haul purchase a few years back.

—Oh - while I was there, I met another seamstress who is local and I got her info so when I came home, I wrote my friend, Monika, and gave her the contact information in case the lady has work for her. All that took time.

—I bound three small charity quilts so they could be washed during our cheap time today (from 3-5 pm).

—I did wash 3 charity quilts for the next batch of quilts to be shown next week - but since I didn’t actually WASH them - all I did was throw them in the machine and then take them out when they were done and put them on the drying rack, it hardly feels fair to say I washed them. LOL I guess it did take a bit of time, though.

I have four drying racks currently. There are three set up here. Tomorrow I’ll get the fourth one set up. Our cheaper time for electricity is on the weekends from Fri. at 10 pm til Monday at 6 am so I do try to do my laundry during that time. Also we have two hours during the day - from 3-5pm for now.

—I quilted one big quilt and then trimmed it.

I usually just trim using my nice BIG Kai shears.

—Fixed lunch/dinner - chicken strips (From scratch - not a bag of frozen, already breaded ones - I made them starting with the chicken breast strips, flour, chicken seasoning, garlic and onion, etc, egg/milk mixture, etc.), tater tots, stir fry frozen veggies and leftover chili.

—Cleaned up lunch/dinner.

—Quilted one small quilt and started the second one.

These are the gloves I love to use for quilting. They are very good quality and fit tightly. The little nubbins do eventually wear off, but it takes a while (more than a year).

—Invited Ewa to come over and she trimmed big quilts for 2 hours while we talked. (She offered to help!)

Trimmed quilts - now ready for me to find bindings and make them so I can finish these up. On the left you see part of a bolt of batting with a few quilts on top of it.

Quilts left to trim (big ones). We got half done with the trimming of the ones I’ve quilted up to now (33)

—I did clean up while she worked as I had a big mess - piles of batting/scraps of fabric that needed to be separated and divvied up. I can then give the batting scraps away to someone who wants them for another purpose.

Batting scraps - I am using up bags that the bolts of fabric I bought a few weeks ago came in. I will offer it up on our local freecycle group. Someone always want it!

—I also sorted more of the small quilt tops I have in the house so I could see which ones I want to finish up for now.

—Sandwiched one more big quilt - so I can work on quilting it tomorrow.

I think the tigers will be a popular backing. Maybe you laugh but some people prefer the back to the front - the patchwork part.

—Wrote this blog post

And that’s it!

Oh, if you get the feeling that I have a production line here at the house - well, that’s pretty accurate. I love having these all done, but I don’t like the feeling of “almost completely out of control” that I am currently experiencing. I know that in another week, however, things should be ever so much better.

It didn’t feel like I did all that much or that I was that productive, but I know in my head that I actually did quite a bit and that Ewa and I got half of my big quilts trimmed up (17/33).

I don’t know where the time went. Well, actually I do.

It was just kind of one of those days that didn’t feel overly productive, but I got some necessary things done. I suppose it’s because I’m thinking about what I didn’t get to that is making me feel that way.

Anyway….

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Thanks for coming along with me on my quilting/sewing journey!
