"Diamond Trip" - UP Greens #35 - new top finished

My mind was working this one - trying to think of something different from what I’ve done (with the blues series and others) where I could use up a lot of the lights - as I have a disproportionate amount of lights left - as opposed to darks.

Then, I was perusing Jordan Fabrics for a break from sewing and watching true crime You Tube videos. I saw one of Donna’s quilts - and this is what it was! Hers was quite a bit smaller, of course! She doesn’t normally make queen size quilts. When I saw it, I immediately thought, “That is perfect for what I need!” So, no need to reinvent the wheel - here’s her pattern in my greens series!

I had to choose a dark to go with these lights/mediums and the one that appealed the most to me that I thought would coordinate with these greens was this purplish/burgundy color. It’s nice and dark and I had several pieces that were close in color should I need more than my original piece (I did.).

The interesting thing about this top was that I thought it would go quickly.

Maybe it’s just my mindset, but it didn’t go nearly as fast as I thought it should have.

Thankfully nothing bad happened, nor did I have to rip a bunch of stuff out. It’s just that with such long strips - as you put this one together strip by strip- and not block by block - that I had to pin the strips in order to keep things lined up from strip to strip. Since the strips only finish at about 2”, I had to use 50 strips - so that’s a lot of pinning!

I put two strips together first - to get 25 sets of 2 and then worked from there to put the top together.

I was so very happy to use up all these light and medium pieces of greens. This pattern was perfect for that.

Here’s a close up to see truly how uninteresting my pieces are!

One of my Facebook friends, Chris Wells, who we’ve gotten to know through the Facebook group, first told me about her You Tube channel. I am immensely grateful! I like almost everything Donna makes.

And there you go. Another one done! Getting very close to being done with the tops in this series!

As a reminder - which you’ve seen often lately - but here is the series so far in a summary form.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on my quilting journey!
