UFO Project 2022 - Report #1
I thought I’d tell you what I’ve done with each of the baggies of stuff that are in my cabinet as I deal with them throughout the year. I’m hoping to completely clean it out and be able to use this area for current projects and not long lost things I don’t want to think about. I hope that there isn’t more in here than I have time to deal with this year. That’s always a possibility, though, as I’ve not completely cleaned it out nor even looked all the way to the back of these lower cabinets (kitchen cabinets).
#1 - These 6 blocks that were meant to be quilting practice as a QAYG (quilt as you go). I seriously thought about tossing them into the burn pile. Then, I thought - I can probably finish up a doll quilt in a matter of a few minutes and then I won’t have to throw them away because I doubt anyone would want them.
So…here’s what all that work looked like.
First I trimmed them up. (I sewed around the edges and trimmed them down.)
Then I cut out 1” and 2” strips of pink. I was already working with pink for a different project, so I decided to just go wild with the pink color.
Then I began the huge project of putting together 6 blocks. (That’s a joke, BTW!)
and binding it!
First one done.
Now I have a doll baby quilt - to give away to a lady locally for her daughter. I have someone in mind.
#2 The second thing I did lately on this quest to empty my UFO cabinet was to remove a baggie that had all these 2.5” strips in it.
They were mostly taupe-ish/brown and dark red strips I had cut up while in FL a couple of years ago.
I think they were things that had come through as ends after people bought what they wanted and left a few inches on the bolt. Rachael usually measures these bits and sells them as pieces. I took these and stripped them and brought them over to Poland. Since I don’t believe they were for actually any one project, I threw the red geometric type designs into the 2.5” cut up strips and saved the taupe-ish/brown ones into all one baggie and put them in with my browns in my fabric cabinet. I really don’t have a place for “2.5” strips rolls” as I don’t really have that many. If I did, that would be the ideal place for them So, another baggie emptied.
#3. This was a baggie with a bunch of 6.5” cut squares and some had some 2” cut off white sashing attached to the sides of them.
I’m not done with this one yet but what I did with this was cut them apart as many of them were still not cut apart from chain stitching them together. I then pressed them flat and came to the computer to figure out what I’m going to do with the almost 100 squares. This is now my plan. I will try to get this done in the next few days or couple of weeks. I’m glad I’ve figured out what I want to do - and I think this was my plan - though I’m not sure. I definitely reserve the right to change my mind! :)
I will use 2” cut off white sashing pieces since there are some on some of them anyway. Once again - especially if I don’t remember what it is for, I’m going to keep the “solutions” simple. I do know somewhere down in this cabinet is a true LaMoyne star bundle though. I started on those as one of my first quilting projects. Naturally. And naturally, I got stuck!
And that’s it for my first report. One baggie completely gone - no, two completely gone. I started this next top and will continue to check out the cabinet and see what I can do to get rid of all the stuff in that and transform those cut up pieces into something nice.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on my quilting journey!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store here!
Here’s one of the beauties we have!
