“Made Ya Look” using 2.5” strips/squares

This one was made from 2” strips.

I made this quilt before as part of my 2” series. I decided last year, actually, to make this up again but in 2.5” squares.

It’s the same thing as using the 2” ones - I just wanted to thin out some of my white based strips that I already had cut up. I gave away the other one I made.

I find it easier to give away the ones I make with the 2.5” strips as opposed to the 2”. It’s strange, I know, but the size difference means it’s easier and faster to make and thus I have less time involved in it and have an easier time letting go - especially to someone I don’t know very well - but still want to give them a quilt— one that isn’t really a charity quilt.

That happened with the last one I made.

This one is made out of 2.5” strips. The colors are noticeably brighter than the one I made above. That is because a lot of the strips I used in the one shown above with 2” strips, were second-hand fabrics. That makes the colors a bit more subtle.

The one below was made from almost all new fabrics mostly from here in Poland - so the colors are brighter.

This photo was taken during the day with my big windows uncovered so lots of natural light plus artificial light -

88”x94”

This photo was taken once it was dark outside with only artificial light.

This top is 88”x94”

And while this is a simple pattern again - when I finish it, I’ll show a lot more of the close up shots. They are always more interesting with such a quilt than far distance shots as there is no real design.

While you can use these white based fabrics as background for a scrappy type quilt - I find them so busy that sometimes they are distracting esp. when the colors are as big and splotchy as some of these prints are.

Here is another photo a bit closer.

All I did here was make 16 patches - using 2.5” squares. I went for white based fabrics with splotches of color or subtle prints. I did throw a few off white backgrounds, but I really was trying to use white based fabrics.

I made this one a layout of 11x12 so the top is 88”x94”.

I will quilt this one soon.

This is now going to be part of my 2.5” series - let me show you that one so far.

You can see that I need to beef up this particular series. It is actually amazing how few quilts I’ve made. Well, that’s not entirely true. I’ve made some Jelly Roll strip quilts out of some of these many years ago, but I didn’t like them enough to show them here. :)

In this series, I may go find some patterns elsewhere - and make them - or come up with my own patterns. We’ll see where this goes. There are soooo many 2.5” ideas out there already - but we’ll see what happens. My point is - I really want to start using up some my 2.5” strips in a regular and consistent way.

Thanks so much for reading along with me today! Have a great day wherever you are reading!
