Up Greens #33 - no name yet

Here’s the next one in the Up Greens series.

I had needed to make up a pattern that used a LOT of 1.5” strips as I had had a bag of them. This is the first of the three that I made from that not-so-little bag of 1.5” strips. You’ve already seen the other two - nr. 30 and 31.

This quilt top is made of a chain block, a star block using two colorways, and a rail fence block. I used the tan as part of the rail fence block and white as contrast.

I wanted to have a little shimmer to the top, so I used the white instead of tan in the chain blocks. That was one reason - the other reason was that I didn’t have enough tan fabric to make the chains out of the tan.

Here are a couple of closeups of the blocks.

I had set aside the three darker greens to use in this pattern - and I used up all of the lighter green and almost all of the green with the burgundy print in it.

Overall, this design would have worked better had I done better with the rail fence blocks. I should have put darker strips at the end of the blocks. It would have helped with what I was trying to do.

But (shrug) - that’s the point - isn’t it? Using what I have. That’s the challenge. I make a lot of mistakes. Hindsight is 20/20. Always.

But this UP Greens challenge (to myself) is coming to a close - quickly.

I will tell you right now with regards to this series - I’ve got one more almost finished, another started, the teal/other color one with the fabrics sitting on the table, and then I’m trying to decide if I’m going to attempt something with the ‘bonus triangles’ or not. I’m leaning towards doing something with them.

Once I finish with the tops, I will focus on the quilting them - and hope to finish them ALL by the end of 2022. The good thing is, I find quilting them quite a bit faster than making the tops (well, most of them anyway!).

Here’s the series so far -

And there you are! That’s it for today! Hope you’ve enjoyed it!

Thanks again so much for reading this far and for coming along with me on this journey!
