Cultural: Price Check - Groceries, part 2

I couldn’t get sugar in yesterday’s visit to the store, and I forgot to get eggs, so I decided to make this one to Lidl - our favorite store, actually, in the area. It’s another deep discount store.

The cans seemed to be pretty close to what I remember in the USA - beans and tomatoes and pineapple. The barbecue sauce as well - not a big bottle.

Here’s what I got.

10 large eggs - $1.56 for 10 so $0.16 eaach

1 kg sugar - $0.67 or $1.50 for 5 lbs.

5 pack of Snickers bars - $1.56 for the box or $0.31/bar - they are 50 grams bars - 1.7 oz. candy bars

can of kidney beans (400 grams - about 1 lb.) - $0.49

can of chunk pineapple - $1.19

granola bars - pack of 8 - $0.99 for the box - they are only 25 grams each ( about 1 ounce)

HIT cookies - (package I’ve seen these at Big Lots in the USA) - $0.73

18% cream - 400 grams or 14 oz. which is like half and half - $0.62

Barbecue sauce - Hawaiian - has thickened pineapple juice in it - 12.6 oz. - $0.78

spreadable margarine 500 grams - 17 oz - (1 lb/1 oz.) - $1.45 (this has doubled in the last few months)

chopped tomatoes about 16 oz. - canned - $0.45

3 liters of orange juice - $2.16 for 3 liters (it was on sale) - $2.72/gallon

fruit tea - box of 20 tea bags - $0.62

My total was 72,92 PLN which is $15.20 at today’s exchange rate.

I know this one was short - but it had the things I wanted to show you - sugar, eggs, and Snickers bars.:) I’m not buying a LOT of different things because I wanted to keep it to things we in our family will eat.

This says “for soups and sauces” - 18% fat.

I want to do ONE more. This time I will head to a regular grocery store - more like a Harris Teeter, Winn Dixie or Publix and pick up some brands you all know.

How do these compare to your stores? Just curious about that. I know some things are quite a bit cheaper, but our prices have been steadily rising so that we are getting closer and closer to Germany’s.

Thanks so much for coming along with me. Check back tomorrow for some name brand items you would see in the USA - but here in Poland.
