Working on quilt packs

I spent quite a bit of time today working on more boxes.

in case you are wondering. We started with a grand total of 110 boxes. So far I have opened and inventoried 66 boxes which means I have 44 left to open, inventory and process! I can’t wait to get it under 40. That will feel very good!

What that all means is that we bring a few boxes to our entryway where they are close to the house. One or two might come into the house.

One at a time, I then open up the box, pull out each of the shrink bags and put the contents on my big table which you’ve seen multiple times in various ways - from sandwiching quilts to making jam or feeding people.

I then look at the size of each quilt and decide if it needs to be a baby quilt or a regular quilt.

I then subdivide everything to quilts, baby quilts, pillowcases, fleece/microfiber, and other things including crocheted afghans, receiving blankets, etc.

Then I match up the quilts with a pillowcase that looks good with it and then they are ready to package. At that point, many many people have helped me process the quilts into the bundles. They include Rebekah, Albina, Andrej, Tim, Claire, Lydia, Alina, Marina, Lena, Angelina, Ania and my husband.

Once packaged, they go into a vehicle - either my husband’s truck, the minivan or the little trailer and are taken to the church where they are stored until sent to Ukraine. That’s how it has mostly worked.

Some have been sent to refugees via courier (one time) or taken by my helper-friends, Anna and Jadwiga who are actively working with refugees and organizations that do.

This group of quilts is heading to Lvov, Ukraine (Lviv) to help a children’s home.

At the moment the back room is full - and we estimate there are about 700 quilts ready to go in that room. If it weren’t summer, I would be concerned. Because it is, I am not. We will get them sent out hopefully before it turns cool again in Ukraine. That’s my goal anyway. We have a request from ONE place that has been hit hard for 500 quilts. That’s a lot for my husband to try to take at once, but we’ll see. He’s still recovering from that last trip.

This room is FULL.

We had filled this room up almost all the way and then taken a bunch for the last trip to Ukraine. Here we are putting more in the room again.

Anyway, thanks so much for all your help. As I work with these, I am amazed at your generosity and care and love shown!

I did manage to get some pictures of some of the quilts we’ve seen the last week or so. I thought you’d enjoy!
