"Walking Paths" - top finished!

I had time to sew this past week. It felt so good and yet, as funny as it sounds, I’ve gotten out of practice! Seriously.

I had to get used to sitting at my machine again. Remember, lately, even as I’ve been sewing, it was mostly quilting - at the long arm during the month of November - charity quilts.

Anyway, I’m still kind of in the mood to make those ‘pretty quilts’ of which I’ve really only made a few in these colorways. Let me show you the ones I have done in these colors -

Specifically. I was actually looking to use pinks - darks and lights, blues/turquoises/yellows and other deeper pastels - not super light pastels.

Rachael’s Garden Paths - I used florals here…with 4” finished squares and 2” white paths.

Of course, that is not to say I’ve not made my share of pastel quilts as I have. But these are ones closest to the look of this one I made here. In a lot of ways, these aren’t light pastels at all - but just the softer colors with a few darker blues thrown in there for effect.

But this one is inspired by this one I called Rachael’s Garden Paths. This is the exact same idea - but smaller - much smaller blocks since this quilt isn’t made up of blocks, officially - but works as a medallion quilt of sorts.

Anyway…back to the new one.

This one is using 2.5” squares or strips .

Here are what the individual blocks look like -

The whole top.

From the side.

I kind of have some charity quilts and tops sitting in the way of this top - but I’m trying to get my living room cleared out! :)

I think I know how I want to quilt this one - so I hope to get it done soon!

How do I feel about this one?

I really love the individual blocks, but am slightly disappointed in the overall look. I guess I wonder if I should have put a little more space between the blocks.

But I don’t take such tops apart. If I really want to try again - I’d do it over with wider sashings - not take this one apart. But I’ll finish it - and maybe in the final quilting, I’ll fall in love with it. I AM in love with the colors. I really enjoyed making the blocks!

Oh - and this is one of my series of quilts using at least in a big way, 2.5” squares. Here are the quilts in that series.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this. Thanks so much for coming along on my journey!
