August 2022 Strips cutting report

I’ve been able to do a bit of cutting up scraps into strips lately. not a lot - but some. That’s better than nothing!

I did not do a report in July because I was really busy trying to focus on putting together those quilt kits. When I do that, I have a tendency to just drop the thing that is less important and focus on the one thing.

But I’m back at it. Here’s what I’ve done since the June report.

1.5” - 0.35 kg or 0.77 lbs.

2” - 0.8 kg or 1.76lbs.

2.5” - 2.2 kg or 4.85 lbs.

I’m actually pleased I’ve been able to cut any at all. The amount I’ve been doing, the extra company, AND the added heat has drained me and kept me from doing nearly as much as I would have liked to. So as little as those numbers are, I’m making it a point to celebrate what I am doing - and not just when I do a huge amount. Also, knowing I’m going to do a post about it spurs me on to cut some more - probably more than I would have otherwise.

This means that this year’s totals look like this:

And this is the table that shows how much I’ve done since I started keeping track.

I know that for many of you it is strange to actually measure the strips by weight. However, i simply don’t know how else to do it.

A typical “Jelly Roll” or 2.5” strips roll weighs about 15 oz - so I’ll round that up to 1 lb. That helps me as I look at these numbers. Even though these strips may NOT be as usable as those Jelly Rolls, they are still quite usable. I use 2.5” strips as binding strips as well - so when it comes time to bind a lot of quilts, I can pull from these.

Here are 4 of the quilts in my 2” series - just as a “for instance” of “what you can do” with these.

There are a lot of free patterns on this page.
