"Happy Cowgirls" - Loralie Designs Idea #1
I’m going to be working on a short series of quilt tops using Loralie fabrics - to help people have ideas on what to do with them.
I have one plastic bin full of these fabrics - but they are themed. I’ll make small-ish quilts with these fabrics, simply because they seem more appropriate to smaller/lap size quilts than large/queen size quilts. Sometimes her fabrics seem initially harder to use simply because they are so cute!!! Seriously cute.
I have several ideas worked up. I’m using the actual style of the Loralie fabrics as my inspiration for layout ideas. I hope they turn out as fun as I hope.
Anyway…
I brought only one yard of this fantastic Loralie Cowgirl fabric with me. I love it!
Do I know any cowgirls?
No, I don’t.
I have, however, been to a couple of rodeos - and I thoroughly enjoyed them. The central FL vibe is definitely “cowboy/cowgirl”. We see actual cattle in pastures in totally unexpected places - not far from developed areas. In an area just north of Dade City, they are known for their bull riding and mud-slinging type stuff. I had a friend from Lacoochee, which is where a lot of people there enjoy these activities. (Just north of Dade City)
Anyway, this particular design would work very well with any of her tossed fabrics that have some adorable prints on them.
I did make it directional, so that at least some of the girls are more or less facing “down” if you look at the top the way I meant it to be. However, you could literally just make it however. It would be fine.
This is a rather large block (12.5” unfinished) with a nice size piece of Loralie fabric in the center. Than I put a shadow on the block after putting a splotch of red on the side - to brighten things up a bit.
Also, with Loralie fabrics - they always just seem carefree and amusing. So…that’s what I’m going for. Oh, and in case you missed it - if you want any of this tossed cowgirl fabric, you can get it here.
I did add my own corally pink, almost white, and brown -none of which are Loralie fabric. I will get the pattern done pretty soon and put it on the site. I want to help Loralie sell fabric - naturally through us! :)
Here is the overall layout. When I worked on the my layout, I kept my printout near my sewing machine so I didn’t mess up.
