Quilted Twins

It's a Twin Thing

When I tell Rachael “Happy Birthday” it always seems so …well, just strange. It’s like telling myself “Happy Birthday”.

But yes, today is our 61st birthday. We were born August 2, 1962. The one who deserves accolades for one’s birthday isn’t that person - it’s his/her MOM. I’ll probably call her on our birthday.

Anyway - in honor of our birthday, Rachael thought I should show us doing quilting things.

My sis actually was told this past week, “I know you don’t know how to sew, but…”. Rachael told me, “Wow, is that what people think?”

Well, first of all, before I go any further - we both learned to sew by the age of 13 or so.

We knew how to sew before we took home ec class in 9th grade. Mom taught us to sew. At that point, we started sewing many of our clothes and some home decorator things. Later we both majored in home economics education/science minor in university. We both taught home economics to kids as part of our teacher training degree. Later Rachael taught in a Christian school before she got married. I know she taught science, but not sure they actually had a home ec class in that school. I taught in public schools - as a substitute teacher for junior highers (13-14 year olds) in our town of Dade City for a semester after I had taught 2 years of college level sewing courses and before I got married.

So, yes, we both know how to sew.

It is not a skill you forget.

It is true that I do most of the sewing in this duo of “Quilted Twins,” but it isn’t because she doesn’t know how. It’s a matter of time.

So, we thought we’d put some photos of us doing quilting related things.

Sadly I don’t have a lot of pics of us sewing in our early years. She had 4 kids and a job - self-employed - and I had 5 kids and a missionary which involved learning another language and adapting to a different culture when my littles were young. Not a lot of sewing back then - and even fewer photos. In our family, I’m the one who usually takes the photos. As such, I don’t take them of myself.

But in 2016 and 2017 Rachael came for a visit and I supervised Rachael as she made a couple of quilts. So, yes, she’s made two quilts - and could easily do more if she could just focus on it. However, she’s always trying to figure out how to create more magical bundles for you!

Anyway - here are some pics of us - doing quilty things. These were taken here in Poland.

So these pics are for those of you who really didn’t know that

Rachael. can. sew.

I do have this short video clip of us - it’s called a “reel” and it is only 1.30 minutes long…I’m in it and so is Rachael as well as others from the store.

Just click on this photo and it will take you there. We are trying to get a lot of views, so even if you aren’t on Facebook, it would be great if you would watch it! If we get the most (in a contest), we will we win something.

Thank you again for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
