"Strains"

Presenting UP Greens #33 out of 36 in the series of UP Greens quilts.

I was at the tail end of this project at this point. I think you can tell by how this one turned out.

The back is all from upcycled fabrics once again.

Here’s a side angle.

I kept trying to find angles to make this quilt look better! Oh dear!

This was almost the end of my series so I was trying to use up a variety of fabrics. That’s why this one was not a very nice quilt, IMO. The design is FINE, but the colors aren’t so great. But it is what I had left - in my boxes of second-hand green fabrics.

I really did want that burst of pure white in there to create contrast with the beige/tan. And I do like that. What I don’t like is my greens. I really chose too m any light ones for the rail fence blocks. At least I think that is the problem.

I quilted this one with very big loops. I did not like this quilt and didn’t want to spend any more time on it than possible! Plus, I used a thick batting which I didn’t really enjoy using on this one, either. So all in all, not a win for me. (At least it didn’t feel that way to me.)

Here you can see the design. I made stars, then rail fence sashing blocks and a chain block. None of the pieces are difficult, but the fabric choices really just didn’t do it for me. I’m almost embarrassed to call this my quilt. But I’m taking ownership anyway. They don’t all turn out to be masterpieces. Chuckle.

Here’s a close up of the quilting and you can see how puffy it is. The good thing is - it will be a warmer quilt than one that is very thin and densely quilted.

The quilt roll:

I decided to name this one Strains because I combined Stars and rails and chains to make up the Strains. - though it’s not actually a made up word.

So what do I think of this one? I don’t really like it. I am giving it a 3/10. I will definitely donate it to charity. Someone is going to love it, but I don’t. I will say that there is really nothing wrong with the design and with other fabrics and a different colorway - I think it would work well. However…This isn’t my best quilt. Ahem.

Anyway, just in case anyone wants to try it with different fabrics for a better result, here’s the pattern! I hope someone can use it! I suppose I’m not marketing this one very well, am I?

Anyway.

Here is where I stand on the UP Greens series:

Yeah! Progress…

This means I’m another one closer to having this series completely quilted. Only 12 left! The story behind choosing this one to quilt is a wild one. I would NOT have chosen to do it yet - but rather, probably saved it til the end. However, I put a backing on the long arm and the quilt I thought would work with it was too wide. My bad. I guess when I added to the backing, I added to the ends and not the sides, and so I didn’t remeasure before telling myself it was “ready to go”.

So, I searched around for another one of the UP greens series that would fit on the backing which was already on the long arm. I did not want to take it off! So, I found this top and it worked. Just barely.

I learned a lesson, anyway - CHECK and double check!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
