"Shadowed Florals"

This quilt is from the Upcycled Greens series of quilts - #21 in fact. All done.

Bound.

Photographed.

Put away for now.

I am trying to finish all the Greens in the series so I can get a group shot of all before I start distributing them.

This puts me over half finished with the quilting of all of them.

Since I hadn’t done a simple meander quilt on the long arm, I thought I’d try it.

I used 80/20 batting.

I have done so many of these shadowed type blocks now, it feels like offering this pattern is unnecessary, but I checked, and from what I can see, all of the shadowed quilts I’ve done - none are quite like this one. So, since I’m not really limited as to ‘how many’ quilt patterns I can offer, I went ahead and wrote it up for you.

It’s here.

I’m having to learn how you long-armers keep all things straight. It is a lot harder than I expected! Seriously! I guess when I did it on my domestic once I had it sandwiched, I didn’t worry about it, but it appears like I really do need to be thinking about it on the long-arm. I came face to face with this issue on this quilt. I’m not exactly sure how it happened that I got one side a little uneven. I will know now to PAY attention to this kind of thing!

I’m learning a bit more with each one of these quilts I’m doing - especially the bigger ones. With each one of these large ones I do, I gain more and more respect for each of you long-armers who have done such beautiful work on all sizes!

Anyway, with this quilt, I took a lot of the different florals that were in my greens boxes and decided that the way to even begin to help them look like a cohesive top, I had to make something like these shadowed blocks. This way each one was sort of framed on its own and not directly in competition with the others.

It does let each floral “shine” (or not) depending on how pretty it is. Nah. I’m kidding. I tried to choose pretty sections of the floral prints I had.

Here you can see a nice variety of the florals.

The backing - once again - pieced from a couple different second-hand fabrics. The floral was the largest piece I had and so I added to it with the purple. I did not even try to make things balanced. I embraced the ‘off-centered” look.

The quilt roll:

Another side shot. These blocks end up being 8” square.

I have already made several (!!) “shadowed” quilts - here they are. After looking at these, I can see that I’ve done MANY shadowed quilts! These involve solid pieces of fabric, but more often than not, I used pieced blocks.

Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey! It’s a wild one for sure!
