"Fair Frames"

When I went to work on this quilt, I had already made or at least planned many of the quilts til the end of the series. As a result, by this time, I was running out of the light greens. This is the end result.

The overall quilt is, shall, I say, Interesting. I am not overwhelmed by how great it looks with all those background fabrics being so different. It definitely looks like I’m using scraps here!

However, this series of quilts features my upcycled greens - and I wasn’t going to relent now and go hunting around in my stash. This quilt was constructed when I was getting close to the end of this series, so I really did lack lights.

Maybe I should just change my way of thinking and tell myself it’s modern.

With all of these upcycled quilts I also did the same with the backings. All second-hand fabrics.

With the quilting I chose to do some playing with the long arm and did some more fancy stuff.

Obviously I need to practice it more, but I had fun with it - but this is a big quilt and I wondered when I would finish!

I have to admit, that while this quilt is growing on me - well, it isn’t quite where I wanted it to be.

Hmm.

The interesting fabric in the middle is all one piece and was a dress/jumper that I had - an old Concord/VIP print.

This design is similar to Hawaiian Dreams - one I made from UP blues.

Here is that one. Obviously I changed that frame from being the same as the half square triangles into a white - it really does change the look from the Hawaiian ones. Also, I changed the sashings and cornerstones and outer border.

I just tried to do a kind of elongated stippling over most of it. Then in the gray, I did some swirls and in the white frames, some pebbles.

Obviously I’m still in need of a lot of practice. I find the smaller quilting easier than the bigger.

The quilt roll:

This is a large quilt as are pretty much almost all of these in this series.

Here is the Upcycled Greens series so far.

I’ll admit, I’ve been ignoring this series a bit this year - gotta get back to it. I like a “finished series”. :) The series is done as far as the tops go, but I do want to get them all quilted!

Even though I already had the Hawaiian Dreams top written up, I went ahead and wrote this one up for anyone interested. It’s here - Fair Frames.

I know, I know. This particular quilt is not that great. But, I feel good in that I did use the greens I had. I could have gone out looking for new light greens so it could coordinate nicely - but I really wanted to see what it would look like “as is”. And so I did.

And there you are!

Thanks for coming along with me on my journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading!
