Cultural: Weather in Poland in March

We live up north. If we were in North America, the latitude of where we live falls between Calgary and Edmonton, Calgary. It’s actually amazing that it isn’t colder where we are here in Poland than it is.

However, there are several sayings in Poland that mention March relating to the weather we have.

Some days in March are gorgeous - just like spring. Other days are more like winter. Today was in the mid 60s F, but next week, early we are expecting snow. Because I actually left in February and missed part of winter, I’m not very tired of it yet.

Anyway, here are the sayings that have to do with weather in March (in Polish).

The most common one I hear is this one -

W marcu jak w garncu. (in March as in a pot – means a little bit of everything)

That is the most famous one. But here are a couple more that I find interesting.

Suchy marzec, mokry maj, będzie żytko jako gaj. (dry March, wet May will make rye grow beautiful)

Marzec odmienia wiatry, deszcz miesza z pogodą, więc nie dziw, jeśli starzy czują go ze szkodą. (March is changing winds, mixes weather, so do not be surprised if older people don’t like it)

Słońce marcowe, owocom niezdrowe. (Sun in March, fruits unhealthy)

I don’t really consider March to be very pretty in March. Nothing is really blooming yet - except pansies which people have transplanted AND I did see some snowdrops at church a couple of days ago. Most other flowers will come in April and then May we will get a LOT of bulbs and flowering fruit trees, etc.

As such - I’m sewing like a possessed woman. I’m trying to get back into my sewing room properly but I’ve had so much “stuff” in there to be dealt with that the best way for me to deal with it is to go ahead and make up and press the tops that have been in the way. (I’ve had bags of things I’ve actually gotten ready to just sew - but then didn’t do it - as I chose to do some quilting instead.) I’ve been using the Juki - the industrial machine - as it goes so fast.

Anyway, obviously in a few days I’m not going to clear out the whole room - but to get a couple of the bags actually sewn up into the charity tops that they are scheduled to be is a relief.

And, since I missed all that time in the states - I have this feeling of being behind - it’s a perpetual feeling that I really have to GET OVER - as it is all in my own mind! Seriously - no one has told me I have to do anything - just whatever I want to do. Sigh.

Anyway…This week so far anyway, I’ve gotten a few more charity tops ready to go down tot he long arm room - as they have their borders all sewn on and are the correct size. I’m not really ready to show them all to you yet - so I thought I’d talk about the weather in Poland instead.

Let me show you the forecast for the next few days. I suppose many of you reading this have similar forecasts.

It’s just that in Florida it is most just “warm or hot” these days. People asekd what the weather was there when we were there, and I said, “Hot”. Then I changed it to warm. “Hot” is later in the wear.

Mike is keeping it nice and warm in the house, though - not too hot, but warm enough to be comfortable. So thankful for heat!

Anyway…now you know!

How similar is your weather to ours right now? Do you have spring weather or summer weather already? Or maybe still winter weather?

:Let me know in the comments.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!

Thanks for coming along with me on this journey!
