Ten Charity Tops ready to Quilt!

I think I’m about used to the time change now - as I should be. I’ve been back a week now…and it’s time.

If I’m tired now (in the morning) - it is just me being lazy, huh? The first two nights I was back I just slept so hard - it was genuine exhaustion and not just jet lag. After two nights here, I was starting to feel like normal jet lag. For us, in this part of the world, that usually means I can’t settle down at night in order to go to bed simply because my body is saying it’s not time yet. However, this year - this time - the first two nights I slept so hard that I wondered what was going on. Then, by Sunday night, I started to feel like normal. I wanted to think that now things were getting back to normal.

And so they have…

I have been working on these things - in order to get to my sewing room as I’ve mentioned. Now some of these I didn’t have to do much, if anything. I’ll put on the bottom of the pictures what I really did with each of these tops.

Anyway…here are the first 10 charity tops I wanted to show you.

Ten tops - all about 60”x80”

I did not carefully press any of these - but I will fold them up nicely and put in the long arm room to be quilted later. If any of you are worried about the extra fullness in any of these - well, I will just have to learn how to deal with that.

Because I’m using polyester batting, it does really help with that extra fabric - as the poly batting is thicker and helps with easing that excess in. I’m learning to deal with it as well. I got pretty good at doing that with the domestic - my Janome 8900, and now I want to be equally as good with the long arm.

I do have another 10 almost ready to go including some larger ones - coming up soon.

In doing this - this cleans out these from my sewing room - as I have a few of these big shopping bags full of things to “take care of”. In many of these, I have the borders already cut up and ready to sew on - wrapped up in the donated top/center.

However, I will admit that doing this is tedious and somewhat boring (adding borders). So, while I’ve been doing this with some serious focus the last few days, I am about “bordered out” for some time - and ready to move on to far more interesting things!!!

Anyway, I’ll move these ready-to-go tops to my long arm room - where I do have more of these big shopping bags. However, there is room in some of them for these tops as I worked hard the first part of February to quilt some and make some room! :)

This whole thing is a circular process.

I love doing charity quilts - as I try to make them reasonably quick and easy and I thoroughly enjoy having finished quilts to help keep people warm and cozy! And, also…when tops are finished - something magical has happened in the process and the finished quilts are….just wonderful.

They look and feel nice - even if the top itself was only so-so.

It’s happened so many times - and I have only about 50 quilts ready right now. I also have a lady who wants a few (10 or 15) for her Ukrainian contacts here in Poland. She’s not local - (as in in our town) but I will give her some as I know she is caring for many needy people.

Anyway - that’s what I’ve been doing.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.

Thanks for coming along with me on this journey!
