“Laugh and Learn with Loralie” - How did it go?
Yesterday we had our first trunk show - with Loralie Harris from Loralie Designs.
We had the show from 3-5 pm officially on Tuesday. During this time Loralie shared her history of how she began designing first embroidery and then fabrics. Along with the history of her characters, she read poems that she wrote to go along with these characters.
We had a nice turnout - probably about 90+ ladies and a couple of men showed up to enjoy this hours. After the talk by Loralie, people had a chance to go to the back of the building and buy Loralie fabric to go home with. Others stayed back and talked with Loralie.
Several people brought things along with them that they had made from her fabric including bags, a backpack and a quilt. It was great to have audience participation. It was obvious we had fans! People came from as far away as the Villages and Lakeland. Probably farther.
Loralie told us later that she isn’t really a quilter - but rather, is MOSTLY a designer - of embroidery and of quilting fabric. (She does make all of her own samples, however, so it is obvious she does quilt some.)
Her characters vary from amazing cats to Golfing ladies and COOL Cats. Her style is whimsical and light-hearted. She has a couple of color schemes and pretty much all of her fabrics fit into either the black/bold colors or the pastely color scheme. That means that the things like that she designs for one particular theme of panel often coordinates with other lines.
While people were choosing fabrics to purchase, we offered freshly baked chocolate chip cookies! Yum! Ken made those (I think Sarah helped too). They sure smelled good!
I wrote about her fabrics a few days ago.
Thanks to all of you who came to the Trunk Show and showed your support to both Loralie and Quilted Twins who held this.
A special thanks to Loralie who was willing to come to the Quilted Twins to share with you all and for Ken and Rachael who actually had the idea to invite her to speak and who carried off all the large and small details necessary for the show to happen.
We enjoyed being inspired by Loralie and her designs. We will continue to carry her amazing panels and accompanying fabrics.
Thank you, once again, all who helped make Quilted Twins’ first ever Trunk Show a wonderful experience for all.
