"Candy Chains" - top finished

This is another of the 2.5” strips tops I’ve wanted to do. This particular design involves two blocks - a simple chain block and another block, - simply called, block 2.

It was fun, and quick to make. I enjoy anything to do with chain patterns, which you probably realize if you follow me.

That makes this is a 2.5” strips roll friendly quilt top.

I’m naming it, quite unusually for me, Candy Chains due to the coloration of this original one.

I’ve actually had something like this in my EQ (Electric Quilt) program for a few years now. And something a little different as well.

With this particular variation, I wanted to use bright pastely types as the main blocks and light pastels for the chain block so that the chain recedes and the alternate blocks shine.

I pulled from my bags of 2.5” strips. Since I’ve been on a roll to make some brighter tops, this is yet another. Let’s see - I have made several of this type lately. They are meant to be a change to me from fall colors or upcycled blues or greens. Here they are.

Anyway…here are some more photos.

And here -

These are the blocks I used.

This is the layout. I did make the top and bottom an inch wider than the sides. This makes it slightly “not square”. :)

This finishes at 99”x101”.

When I first designed this, however I was thinking I would use all the same color for the chains. Then, just before I started to actually dig through my strips and start, I played with the idea of using different colored chain blocks - not completely scrappy, but a compromise.

I plugged it into the computer and I really liked it. And, it was easier to make for me since I didn’t pull from my stash, but used strips from my bags of 2.5” strips.

Oh, and yes, I’ve started to pull strips from my bags to begin to work on binding for charity quilting. That’s good - as that does help me use up some of the ones I have.

Thanks again for coming along with me on this journey. Have a great day wherever you are reading!
