September 2023 Strips Cutting report

I did a LOT of cutting this month. I definitely made up for other months where I did just a tad.

So here are my totals:

2.5” - 14.55 lbs. !!! (Record amount for this year to date)

2” - 5.4 lbs.

1.5” - 4.5 lbs.

From left - 1.5”, 2”, and finally 2.5” strips.

This means my totals for this year so far are

And now my totals from when I started trimming is this amount:

In addition to all these strips, I also cut a lot of those larger leftover backing pieces cut off from charity quilts into 6” squares for Ewa’s mom to make into quilt tops.

So here is what I did for her. All together, this amount is roughly 29 lbs which includes the boxes. But it’s quite a bit of cutting!

For the most part she will be on her own designing the tops, but I did bag up a few larger squares for her to make up as well.

For example, that blue car fabric on the right - the design is very large, so the pieces are 15.5” square! I counted out the right number and put them in a bag. I have this fabric especially for backings, but there was some with a big seam in the middle of what I needed for a backing piece. I decided to just cut it up - as I was going to have to cut and seam the backing and with this huge print - well, I didn’t want to do that, so I just made it into smaller squares to be combined with the red polka dots for a kid’s top.

So I spent hours and hours this month cutting. Literally. A couple of times I decided to just “trim for 3 hours today”. I really had a goal to get those scrubs cut into squares (5 boxes). I did not meet my goal - but did get 3 of the boxes done - but not quite all 5. But that’s for a different day. Those are being cut into 4.5” and 3.5” squares. If they weren’t large enough for squares, well, they got stripped. :) This is why I have so much this month!

There are a whole lot of novelty prints here - but the colors are so bright and pretty! I’m enjoying cutting them up!

And whew, this past week I did not get my Test Pattern #49 step done, but I got a lot of cutting done - so I’m grateful for that!

And that’s it for now!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!

Thanks so much for coming along!
