"Lightning Strikes"

Some things are just worth waiting for, right?

I made this top in 2017. I finally finished it in 2021. I am just now finishing up the free pattern and blog post.

Yes. I am. Hanging head but picking it back up again because now it is all done!

Another in my 2” strips and squares series from a while ago is finished! In fact, I made this top way back in August of 2017!

This one is number 62 in my 2” series of quilts - made from 2” strips and squares. For this one, however, only the 9 patches are made of 2” squares. To help the design flow, I did go ahead and make several of the 9 patches the “same” - as much as I could anyway. I was using scraps, after all, so at times I needed to have a single one here or there that was unlike the ones around it! :)

I’ve delayed showing this quilt for some time now (not a slight exaggeration!) because I was forcing myself to have the pattern written before I showed it here.

So finally I have the pattern written. The actual design isn’t that hard. BUT, in a way, it wasn’t all that easy either. Not that hard, since I did use a lot of larger blocks than I often do - but confusing? yes, it was. In the pattern, I’ve given you the layout as I made it up, but also showed you a layout that helped me “see” the design. It could get a little bit crazy. Working with a ruler and/or a piece of paper to cover the part of the design that you’ve done is helpful.

From a distance - to me it looks very cool! So, yes, I like it a lot.

I quilted it rather heavily with swirls. I think in the year 2021, I need to learn to combine swirls with something else - just to give myself a little variety. I do feel pretty confident now, with swirls. It has taken me a long time to say that, though! You’d think I could have said it a year ago. Maybe I could - but I do feel MORE confident now than a year ago.

Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey!

I appreciate it so much!

Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!

Oh, by the way, I have over 80 quilts featuring my 2” strips! Here they are! The patterns for the finished ones are here. If the pattern isn’t mine - I didn’t put it in our free patterns, obviously. Just a few of them are in that category.

(Also…The ones that feature tops lying flat on the floor are tops in my long-arm room and the patterns aren’t done yet.)
