Another "Single Irish Chain" Quilt - an OLD top discovered

I had simply forgotten about this top. I had.

I wanted to get my tops cleaned up from the basement quilting room. I have told you already how pressured I’ve felt (from myself) about all the unfinished tops I’ve had.

Well, I had completely forgotten about this one but it was piled along with that blue one I just shared the other day.


 

I had forgotten this one specifically, just as I had forgotten the blue one shown above. I knew I had several sort of nondescript ones (but I’ll admit these both turned out to be nice), but didn’t remember them individually when I thought about my unquilted tops.

Here is this finished Single Irish Chain using scrappy nature fabrics.

I’m leaving the photo big so you can see the various background blocks.

Here’s a close up of the blocks. You can see the nice variety of off whites as well.

Once it has been quilted, I really do like this one.

It’s not particularly large, but actually long. You can tell that because it is draped all on the ground.

 

You know I made this a long time ago since I didn’t start and stop along the top with the 9 patches. My bad. I don’t make them like this now.

 

As I write this, I’m not sure what else to say about it - except that these fabrics are just a variety of prints - all in the types of things my husband likes. But I don’t need this one - we will give it away to someone.

Once again, it might slide over to the charity quilt collection, but only if I can’t find someone that I already know who would really like it.

I just eyeballed it and aimed for the middle of the squares as I straight line quilted it. It’s not perfect. It did take longer to do this way than I’ve been spending on most of the quilts I’m doing on the long arm. Plus, I had to sandwich it. :)

However, as many quilts as I did right when I did these, it was a nice change.

The time I was taking these pictures - at least during those few moments, it was dead quiet - no wind and made it super fast to get good photos. Thankful!

I did not write this up one as it is a scrappy Single Irish Quilt pattern. Plus, I didn’t even do it like I prefer and that means starting and stopping with a pieced block. So, it was a bad move on my part and I really don’t recommend making them like this nowadays. I probably made this top about 2010.
