"Plaid" - another finish!

This quilt was a pleasant surprise to me from start to finish.

I kind of started this quilt top on a whim. I had seen it in one of Lori’s books, Scrappiness is Happiness, of course, and also on her You Tube channel, but it didn’t appeal to me at that time.

Then, I was working on something else. However, I checked out some of these finished quilts on line - on Google and Instagram, trying to see if I could get inspired as I had seen someone’s finished tops in a Lori Holt group I’m in. I began to think of it differently. I had so many different small pieces of these Lori Holt fabrics and I knew I could make it.

I wanted to move some of them out and get them cut up and made into something beautiful as I had simply too many bits and pieces of these fabrics. I’ve been keeping them separate from the rest of my scraps.

So I started making blocks for this one before we went to the states for our daughter’s wedding. While in Florida I did find some more LH fabrics and managed to make maybe another 20 or 30 blocks while there. I enjoyed the sense of satisfaction after making each block and also in trying to make sure I didn’t repeat any fabrics!

Yes, this was that type of quilt. I was going for all different fabrics!

I think I succeeded. There are a couple that are quite close, but upon closer inspection, one print may be a tad bit bigger than the other or more closely spaced. I found that interesting, actually. I threw in several different lines of Lori Holt fabrics.

I actually used everything including Autumn and Christmas ones. I mostly was looking for things that read as a not too busy print, though I did throw in a couple of pretty florals as well.

This top finished at 91”x98”. Obviously I quilted this one tightly so it would shrink up a bit in the process of quilting and washing. But I wanted this one big enough for a queen and for me, my minimum is 86” wide by at least 90” long.

I really like a 95”x 95” quilt for our queen size bed. Others may call that a king, but I don’t. I like to make my king size quilts a minimum of 100” and more like 105” or so.

Just for fun, I put my recently finished quilt in the setting of Ojcowski National Park here in Poland. It’s a very dramatic place!

Enjoy.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
