Using leftover from my Selvage spools quilt top

I came across these pieces recently as I was trying to look around my sewing room and clean off some counters.

I almost threw them away.

Almost.

But not quite.

I decided to just use them and quit thinking about them.

These were tiny, but I knew every single seam involved a bit of work and I thought they were still pretty. And Unique!

So I decided to make some simple rail fence blocks out of them and put together this small quilt top. It really is small - only about 40”x49”. I don’t usually make quilts this small, but I tried different borders and everything looked bad.

The blocks finished at 8.5” (to be finished at 8”) and since I had only 20 of those pieces, I decided to just them and be done.

But naturally I wanted it a bit bigger than that woudl be - which would be about 32”x40’. That’s just a tad bit too small fo rme, so I added a couple of borders to make it bigger AND add interest.

I actually played around with something, and ripped it out. I decided to just add a black border and then this wild colorful rainbow looking lollipop border which adds a lot of fun to the top.

Finished top. Baby size - 40”x48”. I’ll probably quilt it with some variegated thread to help it and also make a binding that will be the colors of the selvages - a rainbow/color wheel type binding, in other words.

The other direction -

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
