"Prairie Stockings" top finished
While we were wandering around the north part of the USA, I had Rachael’s machine and was able to work on some of my own projects. This was one of them and this is the first project from the book by Lori Holt which we have called Prairie Home.
We have the book available in the store at the above link. There are 41 really nice patterns in the book so in spite of the fact that the book is almost $40, it is well worth the money. I’ve seen many single (easy) patterns for $12 for a download! So, a real book for $40 at that rate, is a steal.
With regards to the actual photo, I’ve gotten over the need to get that really good photo of the top. I just don’t have a good setup here.
I took it outside and took photos as best as I could in spite of the lumps of the grass and the sun peeking through the cedar trees.
I thought this was cute - and it’s NOT a design trying to show Christmas stockings. These are stockings or long socks like people used to wear. The book is full of fun quilts like that. I hope to do the one she has in it with long underwear - I think it is so fun!
I did use all Lori Holt fabrics in it except for a couple of exceptions but I tried to make the non Lori fabrics match in color or spirit.
The background isn’t Lori’s fabric. I just didn’t have enough with me on the trip to IN and so I stopped at a different store and picked up something that worked.
I’m inclined to want to add something to to make it a queen - if a small one (aiming for 86-88” wide). I’m thinking about it. I do have enough extra fabric that I could add couple of pieced borders that would do it or I could add squares or rectangles. I’m thinking about it.
In the meantime, the top is being packed up and put in my suitcase. It’s in a different suitcase than the Granny Square and Floral Basket quilt top.
My husband and I are going back loaded - each with two suitcases and a carry on. I’ve already packed up one of my own and it does include a bunch of Lori Holt fabrics.
:)
And there you go - another top. I’m not having a lot of time to piece right now so I’m not sure how many more “fun” tops I’ll be ale to finish between now and when I go back to Poland in early May. I’ll try…but we’ll see.
Here is one of my plastic containers with the Lori Holt fabrics I’ve been working from.
I do have plenty to work from should I decide to add a border. I might. I can think of a fun way to add more. Hmm.
Anyway, thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
