"Scrappy Islands" in Teal and Brown

I gave this quilt top — a large king size — to Diane Hissong (and her husband, Jeff) just as we were heading out in early March. Diane did the quilting and it was waiting for me in the chop shop at the store when we came back.

I’m thrilled!

It is a biggie for sure, and quite heavy.

My husband helped me get it up on the line this morning and then I took a few pictures a couple times trying to get the best light.

Jessica chose the fabrics - they were all from the $6.99/yard fabrics we have in the store except for the stonehenge which we used for the border and on the pillowcases.

I asked Jessica to choose the quilting pattern as well, and she chose this hosta design and wow, is it amazing!!!!

I shared the pillowcases earlier as I finished them on the trip up north.

To say I’m pleased is an understatement. I had hoped to have this quilt finished by the end of January and I did finish the piecing by then. I then took it to the shop and we waited until I had some other things to quilt and finally got them to Diane at the end of February.

The pattern is on the website now and I’ve named it Scrappy Islands. It is a simple design and some have told me they use this pattern for charity quilts. It is a single block quilt design that looks complicated but is amazingly simple.

I changed the original pattern a bit by using a center square instead of 2.5”x4.5” strips. I used a 4.5” square as the center block.

The first one I made I used this block - so you can see the difference.

Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey.
