"Sweet Houses" top finished
After all those tops I made from other people’s patterns, I decided to go ahead and, using the Electric Quilt program, work up a simple house quilt of my own.
Here is the layout.
The house blocks that I designed with the intention that I could use 2.5” strips from my pink and black bags and yellow or blue as well. I also used 1.25” strips in some of the places.
Below is the cutting guide. I did need a bit more fabric than a simple strip for the house roofs and the sky/background.
Overall, I am super happy with this, first simple effect of my own for a house quilt.
It hqs only 12 houses, so not too hard to make. In fact, it was fun.
When I made the windows, I simply cut a piece of lace and laid it over the top of the regular window and then worked with them as a single piece. I did sew the two layers across the top to anchor it in place.
Here are the closeups.
I think you can see I added the effect of the lace curtains in all of the windows. I suppose that is probably because of the Polish influence here as people usually have lace curtains next to the window (between a non see through curtain and the window), so at all times there is something that blocks the view from outside while still letting in light.
Actually, WE don’t because we like to see outside clearly. But then we aren’t Polish.
So, there’s that.
This quilt top finishes at 50”x77”. Obviously you can easily add more houses but for some reason, this is the size I wanted to make. Usually I do make larger quilts, as you all know but I thought this would be a nicer one more as a lap or on a single bed. I couldn’t see this quilt on our bed. :)
I hope you like it! Quilting it will be a bit of a challenge - at least I’ll have to keep alert as I did add that lace to the windows. I want to leave it unquilted.
So there you are - I wanted a “sweet quilt top featuring houses”. It’s simple - not at all complicated, but I think I did it. We’ll see when I get it all quilted what I really think.
Next one will be a bit more involved. I’ve got an idea. :)
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
