An Impulsive Quilt Along - “Fat Quarter Flowers” quilt top

I found a quilter with a You Tube channel that I thoroughly enjoy. Sadly she doesn’t have as many videos as I wish because she works a full time job.

I love everything this lady does. Well, almost. I’m not such a fan of Halloween quilts and she is, but all of her Lori Holt, Edyta Sitar, etc…love it all.

She thought it would be nice to do a quilt along as part of her channel. We were able to vote from 3 patterns.

Now, I’m not looking for anything else to do like this, but I decided to join in—that is, if the pattern I wanted was chosen.

Am l a sore loser?

No, not really.

I’m just trying to be in charge of my own quilting life as much as possible.

Just because someone has a quilt along or mystery quilt -- I realize that I don’t need to do it, nor do I need to feel guilty or left out if I choose not do it. I have a list of so many things that I want to do all of my own, PLUS the ones Rachael wants/needs me to make for Quilted Twins!

But this one intrigued me a bit. I figured it looked very quick and easy. Now I will admit that usually quick and easy quilts don’t speak to me - at least after completion. I do enjoy making them, however. It’s an interesting conundrum.

The quilts I find myself loving and keeping involve a lot of piecing, and small pieces. This one is the opposite of that!

I chose a couple of colorful pastel prints and then picked out a total of 10 fabrics that all coordinated - at least sort of. I was trying to not let this one take over my life - as I wanted to kind of sneak it in without taking away from my other projects I really want to do.

So, I think I did - as I did it over many days. I first chose the fabrics, cut the squares, marked the back side of the fabrics with a diagonal line, sewed the HST and then kept going. The blocks were truly BIG and easy (each flower is 14”). To me they look like stars with triangles around them.

So what do I think?

Worth it?

Probably. Will I keep it. Probably not so much. I mean, I’ll probably keep it for a while, just to look at it a bit. Maybe after quilting it will surprise me and I will love it. Right now it’s at a solid 5/10. A good solid “meh- it’s ok”.

Maybe even a 5.5/10. At least it didn’t take much of my life. LOL

The free pattern is here and if you want to make it, plan on downloading the pattern ASAP. I can never know if a pattern is going to be changed from free to paid, when it belongs to another website.
