Days 5 and 6 - "What am I Doing?" Quilt

I finished the quilt on Wednesday of last week. I brought in the quilt off the line and just let it sit, draped over a bannister in my house for a full day.

After a full day, I decided I should get a quilt roll picture before it leaves my house, so I put in on the table, managed to roll it into a sort of something and get a photo.

Then I thought a pillowcase might be nice. I didn’t have any enthusiasm to make a pillowcase for Raya’s mom because I have no idea what size pillow she usees, but I had found a bag of pillowcases that people had sent over from the USA in my house - which are now at the church building and will be used for charity quilting for Polish people and/or Ukrainians. From that bag, I found a pillowcase that will work, and packed up the quilt in it - to at least help keep it safe on its journey.

If you are the person who made it, Thank You! It is now in Ukraine, I believe - I’m writing this blog post before I’ve actually heard if Raya made it across the border - she’s going by bus. (Note, I was not able to give out all of the pillowcases to Ukraine that we were given as we had had so many, but now I’m giving all the ones we still had left to people here in Poland - both Polish and Ukrainian—when we have our quilt give-aways.)

I also found a new squish-it-up bag and gave that to Raya.

I went to bed on Thursday ready to take this quilt on Friday. We were going to meet her at 8 am near her home so she could have it. (We both like to work earlier in the morning so it could be done. I hate scheduling a meeting later in the day because it feels like it might take “all day” simply because I have to think about it, so I prefer to make these kinds of things early in the day in order to get it over with.)

Then, I went to bed.

After breakfast, Mike and I went to meet Raya at a place near her apartment. I asked Mike to take me because my van has been out of commission for almost two weeks now and we are waiting on it to be finished at the mechanic’s. (I did get it back that afternoon). Plus it was raining. The pickup we have drives like a truck. I wonder why. Hmm. It is a truck and I prefer not driving it if I have a choice.

We met Raya, I handed her the quilt and I was grateful I had it in a pillowcase AND that Raya had an umbrella - so the quilt wouldn’t get too wet.

It was done. Given away.

On to other things.

We went to the store (Lidl) to get some groceries after meeting with Raya.

While we were there, this is the message I got. I didn’t actually see the message til I was ready to get back into the truck and go home because, unlike some people, my phone and I are not connected at the hip! :) LOL.

this translates into “Becky - this is so beautiful, sweet and nice. Thank you very much. For sure mama will love it.

I was delighted that she was so happy. She hadn’t seen the quilt when I gave it to her - as all she could see was the pillowcase.

So, that is where I am. I don’t know how much more I will hear, but if I hear something else, I will add it to this blog post (before it goes live).

Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
