"Big Courthouse Steps" block quilt - Blues Strips #1

This is the quilt that started my blues strips series. Yes, it did. This was definitely in conjunction with my awareness of my huge bags of 2.5” strips taking over my sewing room. I decided to start focusing on them and tackling them with much more intensity and blue - well, I had the most of those!

I believe that I used to have over 2 full large bags but now I’ve gotten them down to 2 much smaller bags, so that’s great!

I made a whole lot of strip sets of 4 blue strips together. I skipped the lightest colored ones as I didn’t want them to ruin the effect of the quilt. In this design, the strips kind of make the backdrop and the red pieces get all the attention!

I saw this video and wanted to make one like hers, but wanted to keep it color focused by using only 2.5” strips of blues and the big parts in red.

This one, while a bit more squarish, it still within the parameters of a Quilt of Valor should it be used as one.

Overall, I really like it - far more than I imagined I would.

In case this happens to be one of the first of these types of my quilts you’ve seen, here is one of the strips rolls as I was using - just to give you an idea. I really did make LOT of these!

I quilted all of these with loops and stars - so not difficult at all.

Here is the quilt roll.

The quilt is actually quite simple, but naturally you have done the lion’s share of the work once you have sewn the strips together.

If you are interested in making this - everything you need to know is in the video linked above.

You do not need an account to watch a You Tube video - so go for it!

Here is the little series so far in case you’ve forgotten. These all feature the series of 4 blue strips sewn together!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
