"Gingham Plaid" - large blocks - finished

I have finally started finishing up my favorite tops that I made in 2025.

I’m always unsure of how to quilt the tops - but I decided to attempt to try for circles on this one.

I need to work on it some more, but I found myself enjoying the quilting more than I have ever done before.

Ever since I had to operate on the long arm, it’s actually worked better. I had not been able to use the Precise mode for a year anyway. The motor just raced and raced when I did. Well, something raced. Now, I have been able to use that mode and it is fine. I’m certanly encouraged, because quilting at Precise mode, where the machine goes slowly or fast depending on how fast you move it is so nice! Manual mode means it goes at the speed you set it from the moment you turn it on. That’s stressful!

This particular quilt is featured in one of Lori Holt books - and I will admit that when I first saw the design, I kind of chuckled - but since that time, I’ve seen several people have this design.

All it is is three shades of fabric - a dark, medium and white or very light.

Once I understood the formula, it was super easy.

These are not super large quilts - as I made another one with smaller squares.

The white print was a simple white on white, the medium used to be some king size pillowcases we picked up from a place that was giving us things and the dark was from the collection of the fabrics I got that was originally SCRUBS FABRICS. These were larger pieces than the rest of those pieces which I dealt with a couple of years ago - I cut them into 3.5”, 4.5” and 5.5” squares.

Anyway, I had a lot of those dark pieces which are purples and greens and feature butterflies.

Eventually I’ll show you the other quilt that is similar - because I still had some of the medium green color and wanted to use up the pieces, but I didn’t have enough to cut more 7.5” squares and needed to go down in size - so the other quilt I made had 3.5” squares.

This quilt finished at 65”x79”.

This is part of my Lori Holt series of quilts either directly from her patterns or inspired by her books. This is where that series is.
