"Daisy Floral Applique" - a Lori Holt quilt

This was my FIRST Lori Holt top. I decided to dip my toes into the water of all this applique with a super simple pattern. I found her description of how to make these blocks on a You Tube channel and it was very easy to understand and make.

For that it was an easy way to get started with these quilts.

I will say that I have done minimal applique to date. I want to do more, but it just seems to take so much time! :) I find piecing so much faster and always seem to have so many patterns I want to do.

I did pull from a variety of light backgrounds - not just Lori Holt/Riley Blake fabrics for them. I really raided whatever I had.

So there isn’t too much to say about it except that after I was done, I wish I had used a darker sashing than I did as it is a really open quilt - a bit more “spa

I mean it is fine. I did this on purpose as I thought I’d like it better than the one Lori did on her You Tube channel.

In the end, I may have preferred the other one better. :( Call me indecisive!

But as I said, it was my first. I didn’t think at the time that I had enough Lori Holt fabric to keep using it up for things like sashing.

That’s funny as I look back on it. When I went back to the states in August for our daughter’s graduation from Clemson, I brought back a whole suitcase of her fabrics. I have a lot now.

I used a variety of fabrics. I was happy to have a reason to use that nice fabric for the border which is a very busy print and would be harder to use in most of the designs I was making with the Lori Holt patterns.

There are plenty of the backgrounds in this that are not Lori Holt fabrics.

Here’s the quilt roll -

I think you could say that this quilt was my ‘soft landing’ on doing Lori Holt. The blocks were appliqued, but not too much, and once I started turning those daisy petals, I was able to get the hang of it and and without it taking too long. I just had to get the hang of it.

Here are the Lori Holt tops/quilts I’ve done to date. This begins my adventures with her quilts. I hope to finish up one or two of the big appliqued ones in 2025. :) These are not shown “in the order in which I’ve done them”.

Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading!
