Christmas/Winter Challenge Finished Projects are in
This year’s first ever Winter or Christmas challenge was well received. We had about 60 people respond with interest, and about 1/3 of them returned their projects to us for judging.
My husband called it our “Red Truck Parking Lot.”
As people started bringing in their projects, I was thrilled with just how light and bright all the things were.
We’ll start by showing you the four non-quilt entries.
Each of these non-quilt projects was special in its own right. It’s also very hard to compare carrots to steak, so we struggled in this non-quilt area in our judging.
Of special note, Betty Burke’s puzzle with quilt and bag started out in the non-quilt category, but we decided that she needs special recognition. Not only did she provide us with a quilt, she made something we’ve never seen before; A quilted puzzle. Then, she quilted a bag as a carrying case for the whole project. This is a very special and thoughtful project.
Additionally, we had quite a few Red Truck quilts turned in. These were delightful and bright. It made our day to see each of these! As they came in, we would gather around and they would bring many smiles to us!
Of special note; #203 was a quillow, which means a quilt that folds up into a pillow. So, the side you’re seeing is the pillow container. These are perfect for trips. I loved the one that my Mother in law made us years ago!
#209 used buttons from her grandmother’s collection to adorn the snowman and the presents! She hand tied this one to get it done and in keeping with the old style she loves so much.
#218 had lights that twinkled around the outside and animals appliqued into the truck. She also changed the snowman so his scarf was 3D and hung from the snowman’s neck.
#205 had embellishments on the trees.
#211 was the only one block wonder in the group. I saw shimmering lights in that one the other day when I was in the room.
Viewer’s Choice Awards
Viewer’s Choice awards are as follows:
Anna Records - #205 got first place for her quilt
and Nancy Durgin - #212 got first place for her little girl outfit in the miscellaneous category.
Each of these two will receive a gift of a fabric precut package provided by one of our companies for just such an event!
Quilted Twins Awards
In the Quilted Twins’ in store voting, Anna Records took first place from the staff, winning a $150 gift certificate to Quilted Twins;
Second place goes to #204 - Anna Mason with $100 gift certificate
Third to #218 - Daryl Dowding with a $50 gift certificate
and this time, we decided to give a fourth place: #216 - Gail Sheffield, with a $20 prize.
We also decided to award a special award for the incredible quilting on #217, by Virginia Mitchell. She earns a $50 gift certificate from Quilted Twins, as this was just incredibly special. I know that we said we weren’t judging the quilting, but we just decided to award this very special quilting a prize!
In the non-quilting category, we split it because comparing apple pie, chocolate cake and pulled pork is just impossible to separate.
So, we have decided unanimously to give a $150 gift certificate to Nancy Durgin for her beautiful little girl outfit that Nora modeled for us.
But we all felt that Betty Burke with her 3 part amazingly done quilted puzzle was just a beautiful take on our Winter challenge. She created a quilt, a bag and a puzzle, and it all works as a single unit.
So, she also got a $150 gift certificate.
Technically, because we had only 18 entries, we thought we weren’t going to award the $150 gift certificates, but we felt that you all who have supported us and given us so much delight this Christmas season would enjoy it!
Now, just because you didn’t win an official named award, does not mean that you didn’t get a lot of votes for Viewer’s Choice or that we didn’t debate over your quilt as a prize winner! But, we had to stop with the prizes!
So, we’d like to thank you again for supporting our second ever Quilted Twins Mystery! We appreciate you all!
Everyone who participated has received a $10 gift certificate, and all quilts and projects are now ready to be picked up or mailed back!
Thank so much for coming along with us on our journey!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
