“Nature’s Landscapes Saleman’s Samples” Lap Quilt

Someone left my sister some samples for the series of fabrics by Michael Miller called Nature’s Landscapes.

I saw them piled in the corner of the Chop Shop where we cut a lot of fabric, and decided that I need to make something with them. I eventually just shipped them over to myself and once they arrived eventually, I still really liked the pieces! Just a few days ago I actually pulled them out of a pile and decided to just make something out of them!

I didn’t get a picture of what I had, but it was a panel and then some smaller pieces - all stapled to pieces of cardboard, showing the entire line of fabrics, but a few small solids that probably were showing some basics that also coordinate.

Now I knew that it would not be enough to actually make a quilt with only that much fabric, but I also knew I had things in my stash that would coordinate with the fabrics I had.

So, I dug out some creamish white by Paintbrush Studios or Henry Glass - which was a wide back, some Moda grunge teal, and some sand colored Stonehenge by Northcott. I combined all that to make this lap quilt. I used up almost all of the sample cards in the collage border which went around the panel.

Overall, it’s a quiet quilt but I love it! I think my daughter and her new husband will also really like it as they both love the woods and country and taking hikes, etc. I could see them visiting all the National Parks as a family pasttime.

When taking the picture facing this direction, I had to darken it up a bit just to get a photo since I was looking towards the direction of the sun.

Overall, I am super pleased. It finished about 58”x70” and of course, not a quilt that will be something anyone writes home about - it is a great use of the fabric I had in this line. I believe the theme will be perfect for this couple and one of Lydia’s favorite colors is this teal.

I did quilt it with a thin polyester as I’m kind of running out of the 80/20 I have. (The three queen battings I have left I want to use for larger quilts than this one!)

So, soon this quilt will find a new home!

Here’s the layout if you want to just see. The collage part isn’t really that accurate to the layout but you get the idea.

Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
