Patriotic Bargello top finished
I decided amidst all of the red/white/blue tops I was making with strips, that I wanted to attempt to make one more - a Patriotic Bargello, but not with scrap strips - as I wanted this bargello to be very organized and nice.
For this quilt top I used Donna Jordan’s pattern found at Jordan Fabrics here. However, I wanted this one to fit within the parameters of the Quilt of Valor requirements for size, so I did. I made it a bit smaller than she did.
Donna made a video about it, so I’ll link that here so you can see how to make it.
Obviously I did keep an eye on mine as to the size as I was aiming for around 60”x80” but no larger than 72”x90”, I think is the QOV maximum. Donna’s pattern is a bit bigger than I had wanted.
I was trying to follow advice I’ve heard about bargello or Trip Around the World patterns to not let them travel alone - so I tried to put more than one color of each one - so more than one white, blue and red.
In the end, I’m quite pleased.
Here it is.
These are fabrics that either I already had or I just brought back this year from the states. The main two I brought were the brighter blue and the red stamps. It’s so pretty!
If you do happen to go to the links provided for the pattern and video, you will see that I didn’t make mine quite the same width. I did play around with it a bit to make sure it was the right size for the Quilt of Valor recommendations requirements.
I will share the finished quilt with you pretty soon. I think you all know that I love bargello quilts and this is the first of this type I’ve made. I’m sure it won’t be the last however! :) It’s quite impressive and didn’t take too many fabrics! I used 9 in fact. I used 4 blues, 2 reds and 3 neturals — a white/creamy white and tan.
I very much like this and do intend or donating it as a Quilt of Valor somewhere.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
