Next Ten Charity Tops for 2026 - #71-80
I did get on a roll and finish up these again - so for this week, 20 new tops were added to the containers at the church.
And when I say “new”, they may actually have been up there in the room, but not in the current form. In fact, pretty much all of them were already there in that room, but just not quite ready for the label “ready to quilt”.
With each of these I either added borders or made the top from pieces given to me. I am getting ever so much closer to having the last of those strips at home, pressed and ready to use in those tops. And that thought makes me very happy! That bag has been hanging over my head - of course, there were more than just “this bag” as I kept finding a few more bags buried in that room. There may be even more, buried under the pile of bags - I just hope not.
With the exception of that one that is severely distorted, all of these should quilt up fine with my poly batting which really helps fill in the fullness. I purposely do not quilt closely on these charity tops for many reasons - but the two biggest ones are 1. it’s faster and 2. it’s warmer as it leaves more puffiness to the batting to capture warmth. The 3rd reason that is a huge plus is that it covers a multitude of problems or inexactness if there is some, in the piecing. They usually turn out fine and ALL of them will keep someone warm even if they are imperfect.
Last fall I was hit with the problem that after I gave away all 191 or 192 quilts, I had two organizations request more for Christmas. So, this year I would like to hold back about 40 quilts for them - 20 for each - and they would be for the shut ins, usually, who can’t get out to get their own quilts.
I’m very much in the process of getting that room organized and right now it looks worse than ever, but I’ll share some of the photos I took on Sunday afternoon. Next time I go, I’m taking a broom and dustpan as I need to sweep it. It will immediately look better. At least I tell myself that. I only have a few minutes at a time to work in it, without making a special trip, which I could do….and spend a couple of hours in it.
Right now I’m working on filling up the bottom trunks with ready to quilt tops. I’m moving things that were stored in those trunks OUT so I have room for the ready to quilt tops. This will make my life ever so much easier.
Eventually I envision a room with full trunks of quilt tops, and some full cupboards which I’ve not shown you - with folded quilt tops. Right now one of the cupboards is basically empty on the bottom part. The top is full of menswear.
