Those Flower Blocks- all done!
The other day while we were still in Indianapolis, I did manage to finish up the flower blocks for the quilt I mentioned a few days ago.
I made 16 blocks and ended putting them all in a zipper freezer bag - 2 gallon - along with some sashing strips which will be needed when I put them together.
Why didn’t I just finish it? Because I simply do not have a good place to decide on the layout of the blocks. Then I need a fabric - and quite a bit of it - for the sashing for the top and I wanted to do that back in Florida as I didn’t bring enough yardage of a single colorful fabric with me and I don’t want to buy something locally. I’ve already visited three local quilt shops and given each of them them cash. :)
I want to put them out on the floor somewhere where I can see the colors of the flowers all at once. The apartment where we were staying didn’t have the room and it was too windy outside to lay the blocks out.
The blocks are from the Scrappiness is Happiness book by Lori Holt and I used a lot of the fabrics I brought with me. I did make all the flowers in either red or pinks with yellow/gold centers.
The blocks are so big, however, that trying to put them either on the bed or on the floor just wasn’t going to work. I think they are 16-1/2”x16-1/2” or thereabouts.
Anyway, I know I’ve been failing at reporting a lot of things while I’ve been traveling, but I’m sewing when I et a chance. Sometimes we have to go to people’s houses or have other types of meetings. But, we’ve been blessed here in southern Indianapolis to have a missionary apartment where we have our own space to work without bothering other people.
So, maybe I will get to finishing this one before I go back to Poland. If not, I’ll probably take the sashing with me and finish it over there. Once I get back to Florida I know of at least three more small tops I need to make for Rachael.
Anyway- as you read this, we are probably on the road with a long day of travel. Thanks so much for coming along with us on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this. If you are a praying person, we’d appreciate your prayers for safety as we drive long distances and many hours.
