Jessica's Quilt top finished!

I worked on these blocks as much as possible even when I was tired. This is a rather large quilt - 109”x109” in fact - and took 144 blocks. The blocks are 8”x8” finished and it is a 12x12 layout.

What I did to work the numbers down, I made 4 patches and then 16 patches in order to make it so I didn’t have to make long strips of 12 blocks and put 12 of the long strips together.

Here are a couple of pictures of the work.

I took some pictures in the evening here in my mom’s house, but finally at the store we were able to get pictures of the whole thing. I like to get at least one or two pictures of the whole quilt before we give it to the long armers. I don’t have the ability to quilt this one here in Florida myself. My Janome in Poland could have handled it, but my Babylock here just doesn’t have the throat space. Plus, we have people here who can do it. :)

I despaired of getting a picture of the whole thing but the ladies at the shop held it up for me to get a picture. When it is finished, we’ll hang it outside in the trees.

Unlike most quilts I have, I will have to piece the backing to get it big enough for the long armers. That’s a first for me. I have often pieced a backing, but this one is already 108”. :)

But that’s fine. It’s been an adventure making such a big top.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
