My handiwork at mom’s

I was sitting on mom’s sofa looking around her living room and checking out the walls and noticing what is on them.

I saw again, a gorgeous piece of cross stitch. I still like it. I finished it when we were first in Poland and I had small children- it was a pattern sold by Leisure Arts. I forget the name of the designer of the picture.

Needless to say, it was a lot of work. I still remember the reaction of the people in Poland when I showed it to them. “Wow, you must have a lot of time” or something to that end.

That was before I started quilting. No, I didn’t have a lot of time. Everyone has 24 hours in a day—I had the same time as everyone else. I just didn’t have a lot of other things in my life other than taking care of my children, who were all small, at the time. I had to do something. Those of you who are creators at heart completely understand where I’m coming from.

I also found this framed cross stitch in the front bedroom. I finished that early in our marriage. I actually don’t remember the exact time line of finishing. Now I remember. Yes, this smaller one was finished before Poland. The big one, I actually stuck in an envelope (!) and MAILED to the guy who matted and framed the other ones of mine. I told we’d be coming to Greenville and when we were there, I would come by and pay for it and pick it up.

Then, draped over the chair dad used to use is this quilt.

I knew dad was getting older and I had wanted to make sure he had a quilt before he passed away.

I made this one early in my quilting career. So early, in fact, that I thought you basically HAD to use purchased binding which was very wide!

Dad always preferred the back to the front - as did I, for that matter! I loved that big print for the back. Anyway, that quilt, which is tied, always has the back showing on the back of that chair.

Then I noticed this one in the front room which I named Flowers for Mom. I gave this one to her within a couple of years after I gave dad his.

Here’s the photo of the whole quilt.

In the front bedroom where we used to stay (it was my little sister’s when we were growing up), there are now several quilts, but they are more for safe keeping than for using. This is Florida, after all.

My husband and I do change out a very heavy comforter when we are staying here for one of the lighter quilts which I’ve made as the comforter is simply too hot. It is so thick and warm, you’d think you were living in the north!

And that’s all I’ve noticed on the walls and around the house.

However, I did notice the heart that I gave mom this past December which she put on the front door’s wreath. It is still there. I guess I might move it soon. :)

A few days ago we babysat our grands and there on the couch was Jessica’s (DIL) Husker’s Quilt. I was thrilled to see it had been well used! :) The evening we were there, it was chilly in their house, so I actually used it while sitting on the couch, after the children went to bed.

It’s this one.

Lydia didn’t have room in her carry on to take her Clemson quilt back to SC with her, so we’ll take it when we go her way.

And that’s all I’ve seen so far. It is kind of fun to see your own handiwork in your mom’s house!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
