I got to Be a Quilt Judge!
I had never judged quilts before for a guild or any sort of show. Then I was asked to. Rachael had been planning to do it, but then things changed around and I ended up doing it.
Here’s the sheet that we used to judge with.
There were two of us and I didn’t know who the makers of the quilts were - as they covered any names on them and I didn’t look very closely. I didn’t want to know—not that I would have been able to know who any one was anyway.
So I thought I’d share just a few of photos from the experience.
What we did was go through and check out all the quilts in the categories and judged each category individually.
We then chose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place quilt and then had to fill out all the sheets for all the quilts.
In this case, we had contemporary, traditional, misc. and miniature.
I actually previously had thought that there would be more detail in the judging sheet. So, at least for this one it went pretty fast considering how detailed we “could have done”.
Overall, it took us about 2-1/2 hours to judge 31 quilts. Some categories were easier to judge than others. The hardest was definitely misc. It is so hard to compare a table runner or wall hanging to a bag.
Overall, I was so impressed by the creativity we got to see and experience with these quilts!
I’m sorry I can’t show you all the quilts in detail but I can’t. This is more about my doing something new with regards to quilts than in showing you the amazing quilts I got to see!
The ladies that brought the quilts gave both of us a thank you note with a gift card to Walmart! That was unexpected. I wasn’t thinking we would get anything - I thought it was a community service we just ‘did’.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
