" Applelicious" quilt top finished

This little top was made from the book called Quilty Fun which I’ve been working through.

This is now the second top I’ve made from it - plus I’m working on the main top featured on the front of the book. As I’ve made blocks - enough for the whole row, I put them aside into a zipper top baggie so I don’t lose them.

I first thought I’d make this top bigger than I did. But after I made a few of the blocks, I realized that it wouldn’t necessarily be cuter if it were bigger. So, I left it the smaller size as is in the book. It will just have to be a conversation piece quilt - or maybe one for a lap.

I thought the blocks that feature the apple cores were just downright cute!

I used a lot of smaller pieces in the border which is a pieced border using 4 patches and a square.

All in all, it was a bit more work than the average small quilt top I’ve ever made. Of course, I’ve not made that many small quilt tops like this! I think in general, picture blocks are more time consuming to make than a regular scrappy quilt block. Obviously once I got them cut out and figured out to do the leaf part, it did go faster! It is not a race, of course, and I enjoyed every single block! This type of quilt is so different from what I typically do that it has been very fun!

I laid out the colors of the apples in the exact way that Lori Holt, the original designer of the quilt did.

So, there’s that.

You can get the book Quilty Fun from us here at Quilted Twins. There are just a lot of fun patterns in this book. At the average price of $12 for an individual pattern download these days, it’s a great buy at only $27.95 for the whole book!!! Such a deal. There are quite a few really nice patterns. They are well written with lots of illustrations for you to follow if there is something you do not understand.

I think from this book the next thing I want to try are the mugs. I’ll make enough for the front quilt top - the Quilty Fun top. For the ones for the main quilt top from the book, I’ll use these similar colors.

The pattern in the book with these mugs is only a pillow cover - a throw pillow. It is super cute, but I’m not sure I want one unless I made them out of Polish folk fabrics. Now that’s an idea. A pillow made with those kinds of fabrics into a bunch of mugs could be super cute! I have a whole bunch of these fabrics.

I did not use all Lori Holt fabrics in this apple quilt, but I tried to stick with the colors she used in her quilt. I did use a lot of her fabrics - but will admit to running a little low about now. In face you are curious - I’ve made several of her tops lately - using up Lori Holt fabrics I brought back from Florida back in April. Let me show you.

I’m kind of on the prowl for the next one to make. We’ll see what I end up deciding to do.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
