Cultural: Another trip to the grocery store!

I wanted to do a very short and quick shopping update for you all. Prices have regulated themselves somewhat in the past couple of months. Our egg prices have dropped considerably.

I decided to get only 5 things to keep this simple for myself. It also allows you all to read and digest what I’ve paid for things.

Here is my shopping for the purpose of this post.

10 eggs - $1.31 or 13cents an egg

500 grams margarine (about 1 lb.) - $2.04

5 bananas - $1.89 for 5 med bananas or about 64cents each. These are 81cents/lb or 6.99 PLN/kg

3 peppers (green/red) - red - $1.50 for all three or 50 cents each! (Regular price is $1.73/lb. but they were on sale).

a can of sweet corn - $1.02

The total I spent for this very short list of items is $7.75. If I had bought a dozen eggs like my sis, it would have been about $8.00.

I did do my shopping at Lidl which is a deep discount grocery store. Yes, prices have gone up tremendously for us which of course, is making my attempt to be more careful with my grocery shopping and not letting things go to waste.

I am curious how this compares to a deep discount type store near you. By deep discount I mean a store like Aldi or Lidl or Save-a-lot. It does not mean Winn Dixie or Publix or Kroger. I’m not sure where a Walmart hypermarket would fall.

Rachael went shopping for me as well. She went in Dade City, FL at Save-A-Lot.

This is what she spent.

12 eggs - $2.69 or 22 cents each

1 lb. margarine - $1.89

5 bananas - $1.06

3 green peppers - (out of red) $1.59 each!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can of sweet corn - 69 cents

Her total was $11.10 for hers. Mine was about $8.

So, in short, her bananas, corn and margarine were LESS than mine - but the margarine was about the same if you consider that mine is a bit bigger than hers - a few grams more. My peppers and eggs were less. The peppers were significantly cheaper here. However, they were on sale when I walked in the store and I didn’t realize that ahead of time. But even if they hadn’t been, they would have been cheaper than hers.

I am relieved that our eggs have gone down almost half in the last month. Finally! I think they will go up again in the fall, however. I guess the chickens are being very productive right now.

I chose not to do an extensive list because it takes so very long to do such a list and it is hard for Rachael to find exact matches to what I buy at her store.

So…

Are your eggs about these prices? More or less?

What about bananas or margarine?

I chose margarine because butter is so very expensive, though I’ve definitely grown to prefer its taste!

I thought this would be a nice, fun, light post for you.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
