"Cityscape" top finished

I mentioned a little while ago that I wanted to make this top which is a free pattern found here. It is by Windham.

Original pattern picture

I had, in fact, printed it out many years ago now, but had never gotten around to doing it.

Now, after making it, I have to laugh at myself.

The hardest part of this top was cutting it all out!

You have to have a fair amount of that background fabric - which I used a white on white.

I decided to just make it as the pattern shows. I had considered adding birds, etc to the white part. However…in the end, I decided to just leave it empty.

EXCEPT for the colors. I changed the colors of the buildings, of course, and the windows. I decided the city looked too lonely with all black windows. I wanted the “someone’s home” look by turning on the lights by using yellow squares for the windows instead of black.

It really did take about as long to cut it out as to make the actual top. Maybe that is a slight exaggeration, but it’s pretty close.

The windows and doors took about as long to sew down as to make the top as well. Really, all together it didn’t take long to make. I think it is cool. I’m not sure what I will do with it, but I had an enjoyable time making it.

A slightly different angle….

You can see that the original pattern showed black windows. I considered that, but decided to brighten up the top by putting the windows as if the lights are all on. I suppose the black windows are more dramatic.

Anyway, I do like how the top finished up. It’s fun.

If you have any doubts about making such a top - really …it’s easy. You need a lot of the white background- or whatever color you choose - but it was a super easy top to make!

Possibly the hardest part of this top was deciding on the colors for the buildings. If you remember not too long ago I went with this color scheme when I did my Maker Make Mistakes quilt top. I’ll show that here so you can remember. Some of the fabrics are repeated in this one. I wanted to use up that floral and that wavy coral. Which I did, pretty much.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
