"Deluxe Checkerboards" - another 2.5" quilt finished

This top features reasonably large checkerboards featuring yellow/white, pink/white, or orange/white plus that sashing/cornerstone effect I have used a LOT. Sorry about that. It’s just that I’ve actually made quite a few patterns by now and I happen to really like this sashing/cornerstone combo.

The blocks are simple and I strip pieced them where possible. I did use fabrics from my bags of separately out strips as sorted by colors! (yeah!) This is number 18 in my series of 2.5” quilts using 2.5” strips and squares - mostly squares.

I will say that one strip of a typical “Jelly Roll” will make a block - as you only need 13 colorful squares.

I’ve had this one done for a while now.

I also had a problem with a YELLOW fabric bleeding. I’ve washed it multiple times and no, I’ve not dried it in the dryer yet. The last time I pulled it out of the machine I was happier with it, so I think I’ll leave it as is.

I found some more of those little yellow squares in my box of 2.5” squares when I was doing something with it the other day. Needless to say I don’t have happy feelings toward that fabric - it is a linen mix. I went so far as to take each of the little 2.5” squares and cut them in half diagonally and put them by machine in order to use them to sew on as enders/leaders for my Juki. I don’t use such a piece on my Janome right now as I keep doing so many things with it from applique to putting on buttons that I just am not using it there.I didn’t want to accidentally using these fabrics in another project!

Anyway - that was drastic - my cutting up perfectly good 2.5” squares and making them so I don’t accidentally use them. Yes, I’m that perturbed by that fabric. No. I have no idea where I got it. It is hard to believe it was a piece of clothing as usually those things are washed, though I’ve had one green fabric that was a pair of sort of wild pants that seem to run all the time. I think the fabric was from India and just runs all the time. Those pants were just full of fabric - and really full. If I remember the name for the type of kind of wild looking pants, I’ll put it here.

Anyway, back to this quilt. I really do like it. I like checkerboards - maybe not as much as a chain block - but still, it is a very satisfying block to make and I really like the colors! I guess I’ve been in a very “colorful” mood this year!

It isn’t as large as most I make. I am not sure why I did this. Maybe because I thought it’d be a nice quilt for a young lady - maybe one in our church - and the young ladies in our church have no need for a queen size quilt.

The pattern is written and is here.

It is an on point quilt, but you can see that instead of chopping up a perfectly good pieced block :) as a side setting triangle, I instead chose to use big pieces of the three colors - yellow, pink or orange. I did that to make it even more fun! Those big blocks of color just bring a sparkle in this already bright, happy quilt!

I will say that this one is similar to my 2” quilt which we named Ice Cube Prisms. Obviously there are many differences- but it is a bunch of squares with that same sashing - only the Ice Cube Prism sashing is even more complex than this one. But it is also on point.

I also like it.

So what kind of rating would I give this particular quilt? Except for the bleeding yellow/gold, I’ll give it a 9. I really do like it. The on point layout makes it very nice and interesting.

This 2.5” series is just marching right along.

Here is what it looks like so far. Most of these are on the free patterns page.

Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey!
