My Next House Quilt

I’ve been working on some House blocks based on this pattern

It’s a free project offered by Marcus Fabrics which is found here.

But while I thought they were nice, the idea of living in a house with zero windows and only a front door was a little depressing to me.

So I took the basic design to my Electric Quilt (EQ) program and put in some windows.

Let me show you.

These blocks are 12”x12” finished so I don’t need too many in order to make a quilt.

I am working on the blocks now but it has been so hot that I’ve actually taken them outside to iron/press and I’m behind. The day you read this we should have a cooling front come by and hopefully I can get caught up on pressing.

I have been doing a lot of finger pressing as I’ve been making these blocks.

The layouts I’ve worked on are these so far. I mean, I’ve worked on more than these - but these are what I’m seriously considering. I could put the cornerstones as the original, but I really don’t want to put those on the outside of the blocks as shown.

I’ll show you a few of the actual blocks I’ve finished already. Since it has been so hot, I’ve really been working at about 60% speed. Not sure why - well, there are other things going on as well, which are all coming together to amount to a bit “less productive Becky” than normal.

And now it is time for me to be embarrassed at my so-called uncertainty about either designing them or making them. They really are easy. I now have a file folder with a bunch of buildings patterns in it - that I can work from for inspiration.

I now realize that making the house is actually not hard at all. Since most of my quilts made since 2015 have been featuring strips, I’m actually working on making a design where I can use 2.5” strips. :) We’ll see what I come up with. That would be the best thing as I have 2.5”, 2” and 1.5” strips literally clogging up my sewing room. :)

There are some house block designs on my EQ program that I’ve not figured out how to make without using templates. Still working on figuring those out!

I’ve been cutting out and trying to sew up 2 of these a day - and then I go on to other things. I didn’t show you the other 6 I have sewn up because they need a good pressing. Eventually you will see them.

In case you are interested in this block as I made it - let me give you the cutting measurements.

I just make mine with the two sides - and then sew them together.

And now you know.

So what other “things” have been going on?

Well, for one, our washing machine decided to give up the ghost in the middle of a cycle. Since it is a front loader, I had a load in there which took a while to figure out how to get the clothes out so they didn’t mold. In the end, my husband ended up taking the whole door off and deciding that we have a burned out board of some kind However, hours before he took off the door, I was able to reach in and get the clothes out with my hand through the part of the door that pops open so you can add things to it if you want (it reminds me of a doggy door).

The heat has been incredible for Poland and that has sapped the energy right out as well. Those are two of the things happening.

Anyway, thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
