Blue Strips Quilt #2

I shared the blocks last week and yes, I did finish up this top - and making the block wasn’t all that difficult. I just trimmed my 5 blue strips blocks which were 10-1/4” blocks down to 10” and worked with them. This means, theoretically, at least, that they finish at 9-1/2”. When I put all four blocks together, it made for a giant, almost 20” block!

I do really like how this one looks. Once I had the blocks put together, putting the quilt together was not difficult.

I did decide to go with a blue border instead of red as I had drawn, AND I will use a red binding.

In case you are wondering, this blue border is one of a line of fabrics Rachael has called Earth Jewels.

You can find those here. I am pretty sure it is this one. or this one if you are interested. It has a wonderful hand and is a joy to work with.

I had shown the blocks all finished last week. I did get the top completely together with the border.

Here is how the blocks look without being sewn together.

Here is the finished top. I do hope to bind it in red or a red/white striped fabric.

This one finishes at about 60”x80”. I’m thrilled wtih it. I could have made it more complicated by adding a blue bit to the inside of the white, but I decided to not do that and go simple. However, I do like it! I like it far more than I thought I would.

I originally designed this with a red border, but decided to not do that. I want to bind it in red, so opted for a blue.

So there you are. This is number 2. So far I have three finished and as of my writing this blog post, I may cut up 48 more blocks (from this roll of strips) for the next planned one.

What tends to happen to me, however, with this, is that I start to get more and more ideas. And that’s okay. I do not want this series to go on indefinitely!

I’m thinking 5 or 6 total quilts out of this group of 5-strip fabric.

Obviously, if I run out I could make a few more blocks as needed as I have plenty of blue strips. The chances of having exactly enough of this so-called fabric to have it all work out evenly is pretty remote. But since I have at least 2 BAGS of blue 2.5” strips still, it’s no big deal. I can make enough to finish out a quilt.

I’m really thrilled how the red kind of took over the scrappiness of the blue strips and ‘made order’ out of the madness of this combination!

I can see if a person wants to spend a lot more time on this kind of quilt, you could do fun things in the center of the white - could do some applique even. But this time, I’m not going there.

I’m considering these tops as finished tops.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are.
