"Pretty Petals" top finished
I did finish up this top. I got my son and DIL to come to our house on Sunday afternoon where I had left the blocks and help me arrange them.
They found quickly exactly what we all experience when we move one color around and suddenly, another color is too close to that other block.
LOL
Anyway, Claire, my DIL, mostly helped me. I said that really the red is what draws the atention the most and I wanted a better job than I had.
So she worked on it, and once they left for the afternoon, I went ahead and pinned the rows and put it carefully together just as she had decided.
So here it is.
All finished.
And yes, I like it.
I don’t “love it”, but I like it.
Maybe if I had separated the blocks by a slightly wider sashing I would have liked it more. Shrug. It’s probably why it took me about 6 months to finish up this rather simple top.
It’s a large lap quilt size - about 60”x80” as it is. I did draw it out on EQ. It is not in any book, because apparently this was a pattern sent in a special monthly box put out as an exclusive. However, folks, this is not a difficult design nor particularly difficult to figure out.
This is what a block looks like: At least this is what “my” blocks look like. I suppose the box could have been 7” - but these are 9” finished.
I did use all Lori Holt fabrics in this top.
I debated long and hard about the borders. At first I wanted to do a more white and open border. Then I didn’t have enough of the same white to do that, so I decided on the pink/red plaid which also made me happy.
Since then, I have located another bunch of white. But it’s okay. I like what I did.
I am making these types of designs mostly into lap sized or smaller quilts. I don’t foresee using them as my bed quilts, simply because they are too girly for him. And I want to be able to enjoy them, so they will have to just be out in my living room. As a result, they do need to be smaller to be used/shown. However, after Apple-licious which is tiny - I don’t want to make such a small quilt again - it’s crazy small!
Here’s the other angle.
Just so you can see a lot closer up on this top.
I did not use a Lori Holt green on the cornerstones and sepals. Instead I just went around the store and looked for something in the $6.99 fabrics that would provide enough contrast for the fabrics I thought I would use. So I guess I didn’t use “all Lori Holt fabrics” did I?
I do not know how many Lori Holt finished tops and quilts this is for me, but I’ve kind of started making more of my own designs and other things as well, so this series has slowed down. It’s not because I don’t wish to make more. I want to make so many of the ones I have.
But, I also have other things to make up and I’m trying to tackle my 2.5” strips bags - at least my blues - at least one or two fo them - and I also started working with some autumn colored strips. So, there’s that.
Anyway, here is my series of Lori Holt quilts/tops so far—not in any particular order. I am collecting quite a few I see. In general, these quilts just make me happy. I like the picture blocks and those that aren’t. I guess most of mine are picture blocks. :) I can see I’m soon going to have to leave the fun of piecing and head to the long arm room in the basement and get busy!!! :)
Oh my, oh my.
