Progress on those Very Small 9 patches in blue/white
I told you that I like making 9 patches.
I’m not really ready to put this quilt together even though the blocks are basically made now.
I hae 251 of these little 9 patches. As the picture shows below, I need 50 Double 9 patches.
This means I need 50 x 5 which is only 250 9 patches. I did make an extra so I have 251 in case it I’ve miscounted somewhere. Of course this is the kind of thing I do, and this is also why I end up with extra blocks!
I’m going to wait a week or two til I make the top. I do need to cut some more of the plain squares. I have maybe half of what I need cut. I also need some larger plain squares - they will be 7-1/4” as an unfinished piece. The larger ones will be the alternate blocks.
But here is my picture of my 9 patches. At this point they are 2-3/4” square. Once sewn into the quilt - as a Double 9 patch, they will be 2-1/4”.
I did originally make these blocks because I want to enter into a challenge that Edyta Sitar has, but not only. I do like making 9 patches as I’ve mentioned and this one has been niggling in my head for some time now anyway.
I was really trying to imitate Edyta’s fabric lines and use the blues I had with a sort of blue/gray.
So I figured now was a good time to make this one since I wanted to make 9 patches for the challenge.
This one will not be large - unlike most of my quilts. This will be a large lap or a European single, I believe, if I remember right. It will be about 66”x80”.
I will be making 50 double 9 patch blocks and then need 49 of the plain blocks. This means - 99 blocks. total.
It will look like this as I get it finished. Usually the layouts look remarkably like the drawings as long as my fabrics are close. I’m not really showing backgrounds as scrappy, but I’m making with at least three different tone on tones in the creams range.
So there you are. I’ll be putting this one aside now for a week or so and then I hope to just go ahead and finish it and show it to you. I love it! I was originally thinking yet another QOV but with pieces this small, I may want to keep this one.
Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
