A Week of "In Progress" Projects - #6 Blues strips quilt top #2

I guess the natural thing would be for me to make something from those cut off pieces of the blues strips from top nr. 1.

Right?

Right.

I decided to go back to the drawing board, literally, commonly called in my life as the Electric Quilt program, and try to figure out something I liked with these pieces.

After doing a lot of playing around, this is what I’m doing.

I will probably use a patriotic fabric that I have in my stash for the outer border. If the red heart will be invisible due to that print, I may leave it off. We’ll see. As I look at my patriotic fabrics here in Poland, they are all pretty busy and a heart would probaby be virtually invisible.

This is where I am on this one.

I’m trimmed all 48 blocks to 6.5” and have sewn 3 pinwheel blocks together.

I’ve sewn the other blocks into half of a pinwheel. I still need to press them and sew the halves together.

I still need to find a blue I like and make my sashing strips and cornerstone 9 patches.

The rest is simply borders.

These blocks end up 12” square, so nice and big.

The quilt finishes at 62”x77”.

And there you are.

I still have plenty of blue strips that are already sewn together, so….

I will probably do the big courthouse steps block top next as was the original inspiration for this project.

If I do, I will probaby try it with solid red as well. It will use up a lot of strips. I just hope I like it.

I find that with these uber busy type quilts, my brain likes a bigger resting spot. If I had a bright almost neon green, it would be a great charity quilt. I’m still undecided as I need to finish up this top first, or get really close to finishing. There is a bit of work left on it.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
