A Week of “In Progress Projects” - #5 - those Blue strips - quilt #1

I suppose it is inevitable that those blue strips sewn together will be a mini series.

Yep. Gotta happen.

This is the first one.

I’ve decided on this top.

As a result, I did cut my blocks to 10” square. This was a great idea as I was able to even out them all so they are working well.

I then cut an 8” red square and put it on the corner, after drawing a line diagonally across the middle of the red and sewing on the line. Then I sewed about 1/2” from that sewing line on the inside. I’ll get some pictures of what I did before I make up the pattern. Of course I can do that.

I then retrimmed after pressing and finally put the white 3.5” square on the new corner of red and sewed diagonally across the line and got these beautiful blocks after sewing four together. The rather large blocks are about 19” across. (Truthfully I never even measured them!) As long as they are all the same, it will work, and I will need to measure before adding the border.

I’m so excited/impressed! These blocks are exceeding my expections 1000-fold. Maybe that is a slight exaggeration, but I hope you get the message. These are turning out better than I dared hope.

It’s a super simple idea. The quilt will be 61”x79” once I add a 3” or so red border to the outside to complete the look. I’ll show that later when I finish the top.

Here are my blocks. All 12 of them. Yes, I finished them. I just haven’t had the time to get the top together.

So there you - revealing all my secrets! This is one I’m working on and hopefully will have finished soon!

Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!

Note - the first quilt I made using this style was here. Up to this point in my quilting life, I had never made such blocks. I had previously thought that everything was cut witha template or something. It’s here. At the time I made this one, I had no idea how to do it. But I learned from it. The original pattern is called Bravo Indigo. You can do a search for it. I managed to find it while it was still free. Check that out here if this link works. This was also one of my first upcycled fabrics only quilts. :)
